10 Throw Blankets to Warm Up Your Weekend

by Caitlin Kelch

After a few days of warm-ish weather for January here in West Virginia (50 degrees!), I’ve been gathering twigs for kindling and pulling out my throws in preparation for a chilly, grey weekend. That means I’ll be making this tasty soup recipe once again, snuggling in front of the wood stove with my dog, Rex, and watching as many movies as I can squeeze in. While I prefer sunny and 70˚, I’m not complaining. Any time under my favorite blanket is a good time! This comes from a woman who begged her mother not to thrown away her “binkie” when she found it in the Goodwill pile at age 32.

My “binkie” is a rather smelly (from age), twin sized lime green electric blanket from my 8th birthday. Has the synthetic material pilled beyond belief? Why, yes, that’s very, very true. Of course, I lost the heat controller/power cord long ago. I really do need to retire it to the basement soon, so I’m checking out some new options. These 10 throw blankets, some of which are on sale, are looking pretty good! I’ve even been eyeing a very cute baby blanket for my lap while I work. Hilarious, I know. Don’t judge.

Pyper Pom Pom Throw
I do love the major pom pom and color of this throw. The bright mustard seems to work really well with most colors. It also comes in a natural hue and in turquoise. - Available at Urban Outfitters $69
I like the blues in this over at Anthro. This is definitely a "by-the-fire" blanket. $98
I imagine this throw would be the equivalent of my favorite sweater! - Available at The Land of Nod $109.65 on sale
I love the simplicity of this at Target. And the price is right at $26.99 on sale for two more days!
This dreamy marble-esque throw isn't available yet at ModCloth, but I've signed up to be notified when it arrives. $99
The natural color mixed with the soft blue in this has me very interested. The minimal, but present, fringe intrigues me as well. Available at Nordstrom $69
This is the for my lap! I pretty much love everything Woonwinkel carries. Blah Blah Blah Mini Blanket by Donna Wilson $76
The over at cb2 is very grown-up -- and tempting. This is not a throw my 10-year-old would steal! $59.95
Ah! My bright choice! I've had a thing for mohair ever since my Grandmother sported a bright green mohair sweater one year at Christmas. Mix in a lot of ink, and I'm sold. at Anthropologie $178
Another favorite choice -- the herringbone throw over at Pottery Barn is heathered and lovely! I think I'm partial to the lavender one.

Suggested For You

  • Thank you for your timely and sweet post, I ended up going to the target website to look closely at the black and white faux mudcloth throw, I really like the look of it! Rejected it because of the acrylic fabric conten, which makes static happen here with my uber dry forced air Sheat system …opted for a 100 percent cotton blanket on sale. Which I am excited about, and would never had ordered if not for your post. Cheers! .
