I have to be honest, when I figured out the rankings for our Design*Sponge Top 20 DIY Posts of All Time, I was worried a project like this might show up in the list. Not because I don’t enjoy the project, but because it involves one of several controversial materials we’ve worked with here over the years: book pages.
I’ve seen so many versions of this debate about using books as DIY supplies over the years and heard everyone from authors to librarians weigh in on their takes. And the consensus? There is no consensus. There will always be people who feel it’s sacrilegious to use a book as a supply and others who feel that if the book is being marked for the trash/donation/reuse pile, it’s a fun way to give something new life. I generally try to live and let live, so I’ll present this project as-is for anyone who feels up for creating a custom mat or covering with this clever method Brenna created for turning pages into a form of fabric. xo, Grace
